Tip of the week (CW 52)

Ensure meaningful, unique page names.

The attribute “page name” is read from the <title> tag by default, unless the parameter et_pagename in the etracker code is filled or the URL is configured as page name instead of the title in the account settings.

Please note that if the browser automatically translates a page using the page title, the translated name will be listed as a separate page in reports.

For non-unique titles, the URL should be set as the page name or the et_pagename parameter should be used. Feel free to check the uniqueness of the mapping by combining the attributes “page name” and “URL” (if the URL was not set as page name).

Sometimes web pages are differentiated only by different URL parameters. In this case, it may be advisable to select the page title as the name or to consider GET parameters in the account settings.

Also, it is not recommended to overload the page name with additional information via et_pagename parameter. Instead, it is better to use custom segments of the “Page Impression” type.
